Citroën presented the forerunner of the future C5 Aircross

Following the official launch of the C3 Aircross in June last year, Citroën is now cementing its market presence in the SUV segment with the world premiere of the C5 Aircross Concept. It reflects the brand's vision of the potential forms and content of the future production SUV in the C segment. From this point of view, the C5 Aircross Concept is another confirmation of the brand's dynamic drive in the process of complete renewal and its ability to offer a model range that meets the individual expectations of each market segment. In the specific case – to provide an intelligent solution to the requirements of customers looking for an affordable SUV model with a distinct character, a spacious interior, comfort and the high levels of practicality and functionality required for family use. The new concept development also appears to support Citroën's stated ambition for a proper presence in this key market territory for the modern consumer Bieleta directie cap de bara Sidem.

Citroën presented the forerunner of the future C5 Aircross

Created on the technological basis of the Stellantis Group's STLA Medium platform, the C5 Aircross Concept is a model with a multi-energy drive concept and a powerful stance full of strength and character. Its body shapes are reminiscent of a dense and muscular block, sculpted in organic harmony and striving for optimal aerodynamics. By definition, and in practice, the shapes, proportions and dimensions of SUV models are not very favorable in terms of aerodynamics, but the designers of the new model have applied many intelligent "tricks" to reduce their negative impact. The massive, full-bodied volumes of the body are combined with smooth surfaces, its height is limited and the rear overhang is elongated. The front makes an impression with its low-slung engine cover, while the roofline descends towards the rear and its nearly vertical boot lid. The curved body shapes are accompanied by aerodynamic elements in the area of the rear side windows, and the Citroën Light Wings-style rear lights are shaped and integrated in such a way that they help to optimally direct the air flow. In general, the design has removed everything superfluous in favor of the useful

and the essential, while emphasizing the brand's new identity and modern spirit. With a length of 4.65 meters, the concept model stands out with unprecedented proportions that suggest an abundance of interior space. The C5 Aircross Concept promises a relaxed ride and a feeling of full connectivity to accompany families in their colorful and varied daily lives.

A muscular and dynamic SUV model that confirms the brand's ambitions

Against the backdrop of a highly contested and increasingly uniform SUV market, Citroën makes a bold move and presents a fresh perspective in terms of design and dynamics with its C5 Aircross Concept. The model demonstrates a homogeneous, dense volume that promises a large interior space and emphasizes the simple philosophy of the overall silhouette. The new solution with vertically oriented forms of the front part organically integrates the new Citroën emblem and exudes power and smooth harmony.

Thus, the C5 Aircross Concept breaks away from the current trends towards a soft and rounded style and adopts the forms of a much more solid and serious SUV. In this way, the design affirms the new stylistic philosophy of the brand and demonstrates a confident presence supported by the original body proportions. Its architecture combines the height limited to 1.66 meters with a length of 4.65 meters (+15 centimeters compared to the current C5 Aircross), slender lines and energetic "shoulders" in the area of the fenders, which emphasize the athleticism of the model. This powerful and attractive balance of proportions is complemented by modern, muscular volumes and a design that sets the concept model apart from other representatives of this market segment.

The frontal silhouette sits firmly on the widened tracks of the front and rear axles, accompanied by the already mentioned pronounced "shoulders" - a solid foundation for a powerful stance and dynamic presence on the road. At the same time, the massive volumes speak of an abundance of interior space and clearly indicate that this is a family car. The side line of the body in turn creates a distinct sense of movement from front to back through the dynamic line of the edge pressed between the two tensioned plastic surfaces, which gradually curves back and visually "presses" the body onto the rear wheels, enhancing the feeling of stability. This solution acts as a kind of backbone of an undeniably elegant design that radiates tension, energy and a conscious rejection of unnecessary decorations.

The accentuated vertical rear profile creates an immediate impression of a large cargo volume. The slight indentation in the front doors in turn helps to maintain the overall graphic balance and allows the design to be outlined vertically, thus following the philosophy behind Citroën's latest developments. This approach is also reflected in the addition of vertical colored clips on the front doors and the front of the C5 Aircross Concept – a real family mark in the form of a playful wink to the C3 and C3 Aircross.

The graphic of lights as a symbol of innovative design

In the front part, a new light graphic of three elements characteristic of the latest models of the brand makes a strong impression - narrow light segments that create the feeling of a piercing gaze and strengthen the feeling of the width of the body. The light block also contributes

for the more prestigious status of the model with the combination of modern style, technology and character. The smooth, muscular shapes in the design of the fenders and front cover, in turn, form a pleasant contrast with the technocratic style in the layout of the radiator grille and headlights.

At the rear, a higher position of the black strip on the tailgate is used, which gives additional visual width and an authoritative presence. Keeping the spirit of the three-component light graphic, the designers have interpreted it in a new, model-specific way with an impressive architecture – two of the light components appear to be separated from the side molding and seem to float in space like two fins on the side of the body. This arrangement and layout of the elements is called Citroën Light Wings. In addition to the original appearance, it also helps to achieve good aerodynamics by optimally directing the complex air flows in this part of the body.

Maximum effective forms

The streamlined body shapes of the C5 Aircross Concept are no accident – the pursuit of high aerodynamic efficiency is a guiding principle in the studio's design. Its creators have set themselves the task of overcoming this challenge – the limitations that the shapes, proportions and layout of traditional SUV models place on improving their aerodynamic characteristics. As a result, the C5 Aircross Concept has been designed to optimize both the aerodynamic efficiency and aesthetic qualities of the design. Every detail in the concept model has been considered and evaluated carefully with a view to achieving this ultimate goal – without compromising the car's identity or the useful volume of interior space. Ultimately, the engineers and designers were able to achieve approximately 30 kilometers longer autonomous electric range than the current C5 Aircross in highway driving.

The design of the front of the body is smooth and unobtrusive, with the frontal area of the engine cover being slightly lower and sunken to facilitate the passage of air flow. The volumes are complete and harmonious, without interruption of the lines, and the bodywork of the C5 Aircross concept is perfectly balanced in terms of aerodynamic streamlining. With its overall length of 4.65 meters, the car is elegant, with an elongated rear overhang and a height limited to 1.66 meters, which allows optimal guidance of the oncoming air flow along the entire length.

At the rear, special measures have also been taken to improve aerodynamic performance. The roof slopes smoothly back, and the ceiling of the passenger compartment is curved in its upper part. The inspiration the designers drew from the world of technology and electronic devices is particularly evident in the approach to cooling and ventilation. The use of embossed strips on the rear side pillars of the roof also helps to direct the airflow in this part of the body.

The integrated Citroën Light Wings rear lights are also a reflection of the work done by the engineers and designers in this area. By pulling the peculiar "fins" of the light graphic to this unexpected position, the creators of the concept model have managed to significantly change the aerodynamics in this very important part and preserve both the volume of the passenger and luggage space and the best possible streamlining. The design of the lights combines free zones and fins clearly protruding from the main body, which create a very good basis for achieving high aerodynamic efficiency.

Another very important aspect of good aerodynamics is reducing air resistance by limiting the swirling effect of the airflow behind the car. These vortices have a negative effect on movement and are a natural obstacle to achieving a long autonomous range. In the C5 Aircross Concept, the volume curved towards the rear bumper is shaped in such a way that, depending on the driving speed, the airflow directed towards the vortex area can partially reverse the drag trend and create a positive forward thrust. The roof surface is also recessed to improve aerodynamic efficiency, and various other parts of the body feature flaps and ducts, further improving the concept model's aerodynamic performance.

For the first time, Citroën presents a model on the STLA Medium platform.

The model range of Citroën in the markets of Europe is based on modern technological platforms, tailored exactly to the requirements in the different market segments. The new C3 and C3 Aircross use the Smart Car platform, adapted to high European standards and equipped with driver assistance and connectivity systems capable of meeting the expectations of customers in this segment. The C5 Aircross Concept, on the other hand, is a kind of harbinger of an SUV model, which for the first time in the Citroën range will use the new STLA-Medium platform.
