The most powerful Abarth in history is now undergoing track tests
Scorpio celebrates its anniversary with one of its most challenging and exciting projects – the new Abarth 600e, the most powerful Abarth to date with 280 hp. and acceleration from 0 to 100 in 5.85 seconds Caseta directie Spidan.
This revolutionary model is the result of a challenging project involving not only Abarth experts but also the expertise of Stellantis Motorsport engineers. Together they developed a state-of-the-art sports BEV platform – the Perfo eCMP, where the technology transfer takes place, giving birth to the new Abarth 600e.
A diabolical car fully equipped to deliver an extraordinary driving experience and performance, along with the power and disarming aggression that is its trademark. Its captivating 'evil' essence can be seen in its muscular exterior and large footprint, wide rims, aerodynamic rear spoiler and aggressive yet sporty interior. Together with racing experts Michelin, Sabelt, JTEKT Torsen and Alcon, Abarth studied and tested under many conditions the most suitable solutions to obtain the perfect combination for the most powerful Abarth to date.
The new model, developed in collaboration with Stellantis Motorsport, marks an important step for Abarth as it sets the new standard for electric hot hatches and the sporty style combined with the electrification of city cars thanks to its racing nature.
The Scorpion offers drivers a thrilling experience in all driving conditions with its two versions – the sporty Abarth 600e Turismo and the limited Scorpionissima series, which is available in 1,949 units – a tribute to the brand's founding year.
From tomorrow, the most powerful Abarth to date will be available for order in the main European countries in both versions – the New Abarth 600e Turismo and the Scorpionissima model.
Designed to be the most powerful Abarth
The reason why the new Abarth model is the most powerful yet lies in some key elements inside the car. Among these "hidden" components, the beating heart of the car is the Abarth electric motor, which is an in-house development. The model far exceeds the performance of existing electric hot hatches, as it is equipped with a 207 kW and 280 hp engine. – the highest output ever achieved by an Abarth car. The electric motor was tested on the FORMULA E test bench with a real track simulator. Furthermore, the Scorpionissima with 0 to 100 in 5.85 seconds and the Turismo with 0 to 100 in approximately 6.24 seconds are quick and responsive on any terrain. To deliver more power, this monster car packs 345Nm of torque and can reach a limited top speed of 200km/h with a battery range of up to 334km (WLTP combined cycle), depending on the type of tires it's fitted with .
Both versions of the new Abarth 600e are equipped with three driving modes. Turismo mode provides smoother acceleration and 110 kW of power for the Abarth 600e Turismo and 140 kW for the Scorpionissima, combined with 300 Nm of torque for fun and efficient driving with a top speed limited to 150 km/h. This configuration also includes sport throttle calibration, sport steering calibration and standard ESP calibration. In addition to these features, the second driving mode, Scorpion Street, comes with 150 kW for the Turismo model and 170 kW for the Scorpionissima with 345 Nm of torque and a top speed limited to 180 km/h. The third mode, Scorpion Track, includes aggressive throttle calibration, sportier handling and "fun" ESP settings. The Scorpion Track configuration is the way the Abarth has the most fun, with the highest performance, with a top speed of 200 km/h, 345 Nm of torque and a higher output of 207 kW (280 hp) for Abarth 600e Scorpionissima and 175 kW (240 hp) for the Turismo version.
Abarth 600e – born from the racing know-how of Abarth and Stellantis Motorsport
The new Abarth 600e is the result of the racing know-how developed by the motorsport experts with whom Abarth worked for this challenging project. Abarth and Michelin began collaborating in 2021, immediately after the specifications were drawn up. In addition to the desire to convey the expected natural sporting character, attention was also paid to the safety, life expectancy and energy characteristics of the tires. Thanks to the optimized rubber compound and the special architecture, the MICHELIN Pilot Sport EV tires are designed to meet the 280 hp provided by the Abarth 600e, while offering this sporty SUV an excellent level of grip, both in the dry and in the wet .
Co-developed with Alcon, the brakes come from the world of racing, have a larger surface area and provide stability and thermal control thanks to a four-piston monobloc caliper. The special contribution of Alcon's expertise makes the new Abarth 600e perfect for those looking for an exciting driving experience from the racetrack to normal road traffic. When it comes to braking and speed, Abarth continues to surprise its community as the brand's experts pursued the goal of more power and stopping stability with 380mm Alcon brakes and calipers adapted to the Abarth 600e for incredible results.
In addition, the new Abarth 600e features JTEKT's Torsen mechanical limited-slip differential, offering better trajectory, improved handling, excellent cornering grip and safety in slippery conditions. The combination of Abarth and JTEKT Torsen expertise makes this new car even more unique and competitive. A limited-slip differential provides additional torque to the outside wheel, and the car's handling is improved by the lock setting, which reaches 36% during acceleration and 34% during braking. With their know-how on the track, the racing experts from Abarth and Stellantis Motorsport paid special attention to some key elements to make this challenging project for electric cars a success. They increased the stiffness of the suspension and reinforced the chassis with a rear stabilizer bar.
The Abarth 600e's cooling system with a large capacity coolant pump pushes the limits of battery drain that can limit the car's performance. In addition, a special calibration ensures efficient cooling in sports modes as well.
The racing spirit is also expressed by the style and technical characteristics of the Sabelt seats to ensure performance, dynamics and stable driving support. Racing ergonomics are achieved through a wrap-around shape that contains curves. In addition, on the Scorpionissima, the seats emphasize lateral support and are optimized with four different high-density foams on each part of the body. Also on the limited edition, the side vents along with the strong and accentuated support and seat belt frame provide a track look to appeal to true enthusiasts with an authentic racing feel.
Designed to serve – the exterior of the new Abarth 600e
To maximize performance, the new Abarth 600e presents specific exterior and interior features. Starting with the exterior, the design is inspired by two main themes - the first draws inspiration from the past, interpreting the contrast given by the large, brutally square volume of the Abarth 850 TC's front radiator, from which it derives its nickname "cassettone" (dresser), giving certain sports and emotional impact; the second theme enriches the square geometry with strong graphics inspired by the world of gaming and digital technology, composed of slanted lines engraved on the surfaces that become a grille in the air intake. This logic of form and application is also found in the rear bumper to emphasize the desired effect.
In addition, Abarth decided to highlight the difference by working on four elements in particular – the front and rear bumpers, the spoiler and the wheels. At the front, engineers and designers lengthened the silhouette, emphasizing the so-called "shark nose", improving aerodynamics and thus providing the specific bumper with a characteristic volume and three-dimensional Abarth lettering. The front flare is a result of the lowered structure and increased footprint with an extra 30mm at the front and an extra 25mm at the rear. Far from being merely aesthetic, the highly squared shapes of the aerospoiler and extractor in the bumper have been studied and wind tunnel tested to improve the performance of the new Abarth 600e. As for the 20" alloy wheels, they are majestic and present an attractive design - the 5-spoke wheels are designed to recreate the stylized shape of the scorpion's sting and provide a glimpse of the sports brakes and calipers. In addition, its cap is inspired by mono bolts and has a modern faceted design. The electrified scorpion, which already made its debut on the Abarth 500e, also characterizes this model, enriching some exterior highlights – in addition to the logo on the fenders and the Abarth emblem on the front cover, the beloved scorpion appears on the center line, engraved on the black surfaces of the front and rear bumper and spoiler. In addition to the Abarth 600e Turismo, the limited edition Scorpionissima will feature a gloss black bodykit, a specific side decal and colored front brake calipers.
The overall effect – from both the front and rear of the car with the specific tail light panel and inspiring shape – gives the car a strong personality and a significant bold impact.
Complementing the car's aggressiveness, black mirror caps and handles contrast with the colors of both models – the Abarth 600e Turismo will be available in exciting Acid Green, a reference to the acidity of poison, Antidote White, Shock Orange and Venom Black, while the limited edition Scorpionissima will will be available in Acid Green and the exclusive Hypnotic Purple, which is inspired by the hypnotic after-call effect. Abarth's color names tell a fascinating story about the 'Scorpion Sting' strategy to reinforce the effect the brand wants to achieve with the new car.
