Flashback: when Citroën was gaining courage with the C4
What Bulgaria wrote 20 years ag piese auto Citroen de top.
Xsara's successor bears the simple name C4. However, the two versions of the new model are anything but simple...
The resurgent spirit of the legendary French brand has finally reached the compact class. The new Citroën C4, which will celebrate its premiere at the Paris Motor Show, impresses above all with its modern and unusual forms - a sight with which we have gradually grown accustomed to associate cars bearing the emblem with the two chevrons. With this, the stylistic boredom that reigned in the Citroën range in the 90s is finally consigned to history.
The coupe version is distinguished by its avant-garde design at the rear
At the end of the year, both versions of the C4 will appear on the market at the same time – the rounded modification with five doors and the sport-oriented variety with three doors and an almost entirely glazed rear part with quite original shapes. Citroën promises remarkably good aerodynamic performance for both versions – the drag coefficient of just 0.28 is indeed a record low value in the compact class.
It is even more pleasing that along with the originality in the exterior, Citroën has prepared quite a few surprises in the interior of the new models. The main role in this regard is naturally played by the instrument panel - the French can no longer surprise anyone with the control instrument block located in the middle of the upper part, but the steering wheel with a fixed central part is something unseen in serial automobile production until now. According to the creators of the new model, among a number of other advantages it offers, this construction allows the airbag to always be optimally positioned in relation to the driver's body.
Citroën's second major breakthrough in production car technology is the lane keeping system. Located under the front bumper, infrared sensors detect the white lines of the horizontal marking and send a signal to inform the driver in case the vehicle passes them, leaving the lane. At a driving speed of up to 80 km/h, the warning is not carried out by an audible signal, but by means of slight vibrations in the driver's seat.
The third innovative idea should increase the comfort and pleasure of staying in the car. Citroën engineers have created a deodorant built into the dashboard, which takes care of the constant maintenance of the pleasant atmosphere in the passenger compartment. The aroma diffuser is located in the upper part of the instrument panel and can be infinitely adjusted. It remains to be seen how the manufacturers of the so far popular "smelly" will look at this innovation...
Last but not least, it is striking that, in general, the equipment of both versions of the new model has received quite fresh additions from the upper car class - the C4 will be available both with "turning" bi-xenon headlights and a radar-controlled cruise control system, as well as a system for tire pressure control.
The market debut of the model will be accompanied by a range of five petrol engines with power between 88 and 177 hp, as well as three modern diesel engines with power between 90 and 136 hp. The two most powerful diesel units (with 109 and 136 hp) will also be equipped with particulate filters as standard.
