Stylistic changes for the VW Polo 20 years ago: more similarities with the "big brother"

After the stylistic changes in the exterior, the VW Polo has acquired a more mature look and has finally grown up.

Having an older brother is a great thing... You have someone to play with, someone to protect you from bad guys, and sometimes he can serve as an example. This is exactly the case with the VW Polo, whose appearance already directly resembles the features of the big Passat.

Volkswagen's small bestseller will appear on the market in new clothes and its length increased by 2 cm due to the operation (3.92 m) by the end of April. The width of 1.65 m, the height of 1.47 m and the wheelbase of 2.46 m remain unchanged. Naturally, the Polo's changed appearance in the style of the elegant Passat gives it a much more mature appearance, complemented by the changed styling of the rear lights and the tapered contour of the rear window at the bottom. On the other hand, the interior of the modernized version has remained largely unchanged. The novelties here are limited to the revised graphics of the instrument dials, the refreshed patterns of the upholstery and the new steering wheels. However, the equipment of the model has been improved. All Polo versions will now come standard with ABS with state-of-the-art emergency braking assistance, electric front windows, central locking and air conditioning from the Comfortline trim level upwards.

A small car with a big range of nine engines

Safety measures have not been neglected either. Front and side airbags for the front two seats remain standard, while head curtains for the front and rear passengers will be available as an option. The ESP system will also require an additional fee for versions with power below 100 hp.

Under the hood of the updated model, good old acquaintances can be found. The range is quite extensive and includes as many as nine options to choose from – the five petrol engines cover the power range from 55 to 100 hp, and the potential of the diesels is between 70 and 130 hp.

The best news, however, is that prices will remain at their current levels. In Germany, the base model with a 1.2-liter engine and 55 hp will be available for 11,250 euros, while the price of the 1.4-liter TDI with 70 hp will be 13,485 euros. In both cases, we are talking about cars with three doors, three cylinders and of course – with the new face a la “big brother”. Not bad!
