They are changing the organization of traffic on the Hemus Highway for heavy traffic from January 4 to 6
From tomorrow - January 4, until January 6, the organization of traffic through the "Topli Dol" and "Praveshki Hanove" tunnels on the "Hemus" Motorway will be changed to facilitate travel given the expected heavy traffic towards Sofia.
On January 4 (Saturday), January 5 (Sunday) and January 6 (Monday), when traffic to the capital is expected to be more intense, there will be two lanes in the Topli Dol tunnel only for Sofia. Travelers to Varna will take a detour route - from the Vitinska Reka substation, along road I-1 Sofia - Botevgrad, road II-17 and at the 47th km at the Botevgrad substation they will continue along the Hemus Motorway.
Only those traveling to Sofia will also pass through the Praveshki Hanove tunnel, and traffic to Varna will be redirected from the Hemus Motorway at the Pravets junction on the I-3 Yablanitsa - Botevgrad road and at the Osikovska Lakavitsa checkpoint it will return to the Hemus Motorway.
In the direction of Sofia, the movement of heavy goods vehicles over 12 tons will be limited from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on January 4 /Saturday/ and January 5 /Sunday/ and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on January 6 /Monday/. Heavy goods vehicles will be diverted at the Botevgrad road junction and will wait in place on road II-17 /PIC near Botevgrad/.
If necessary, depending on the intensity of traffic, at the discretion of the bodies of the Sofia Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior/SDVR, other restrictions may be imposed to ensure the safety of travel.
The Road Infrastructure Agency appeals to drivers who are about to travel in the coming days to set off with cars prepared for winter conditions. Meteorologists' forecasts are for worsening weather and a drop in temperatures. Rain and snow are expected in Northern and Western Bulgaria, as well as strong winds. The regional road departments are ready to take the necessary actions to treat the pavements in the high-mountainous regions and passes, where there are conditions for slipperiness and icing, especially early in the morning, when temperatures are lower. The goal is for preventive and then snow removal activities to begin as quickly as possible in order to ensure the passability of the roads. The priority is the motorways, the busiest routes on the first-class and second-class road network and the passes providing connections between Northern and Southern Bulgaria.
Drivers should drive with caution and at a reasonable speed, keep a safe distance and do not overtake snow removal machines. Blocking traffic by vehicles that are not prepared for winter conditions makes it difficult for all other drivers to travel and for snow removal equipment to operate.
All citizens and transport companies can receive information about the current road situation from the RIA website - www.api.bg, as well as at any time of the day by calling 0700 130 20 at RIA.
