Audi RS 4 B5: a future classic – but already at astronomical prices
Only 6,030 units of the Audi RS 4 B5 were produced - that's why the powerful station wagon is attracting the interest of more and more collectors. However, the prices of different specimens vary greatl magazin online de piese auto.
The first generation of the Audi RS 4 was launched in 1999 as the successor to the legendary RS 2. However, unlike its predecessor, this model was not created in collaboration with Porsche, but was developed by quattro GmbH. Initially, they had planned to make only 3000 units in Ingolstadt, but the demand turned out to be so serious that Audi made a total of 6030 of the first generation RS 4!
The RS 4 B5 is no longer one of those models that "holds" within itself the potential to become classics, but is still too new for that and its prices are favorable. The potent station wagon has been a sought-after classic for years – and collectors are willing to pay big bucks for it. When it was launched in 1999, the base price of the fast Audi was 127,000 marks – a brutal amount for an A4. But the RS 4 doesn't have much in common with its civilian counterpart.
127,000 marks – the price in the showroom
The "explosions" on the body and the large air intakes immediately betray the top model. And if you think that the RS 4 "gained" only in terms of weight, you are wrong: in 1999, the station wagon developed the same power as the Ferrari F355. This is due to the extremely potent 2.7-liter V6 biturbo unit under the hood. The engine was first launched in the S4, in which it generated 265 hp. But with the RS 4, the "horses" are significantly more - thanks to the support from Cosworth specialists (then part of the VW Group). Thanks to significant modifications such as larger turbochargers and intercoolers, as well as adapted cylinder heads and a new exhaust system, the RS 4 generates 381 hp. and a maximum torque of 440 Nm. And for 1999, these are impressive indicators!
0-100 km/h in 4.9 seconds
Power is sent to all four drive wheels via a 6-speed manual gearbox. Weighing 1,620 kg, the RS 4 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds, and its top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h. However, the engine "brings to battle" - which also explains why so many RS 4s are tuned.
A completely original example of the RS 4 B5 (the model is only available as an Avant) is currently listed for sale by German dealership Best Cars UG. The car was registered for the first time in September 2000 and for the last 24 years it has driven about 194,000 kilometers.
The photos do not show the serious mileage of the Audi, no serious damage or other defects are visible. There are defects on the rims (after all, it is the original ones), as well as on the leather interior - after all, the machine is a quarter of a century old.
The more important thing is that everything about the technique was working. According to the seller, the RS 4 was in 'Avus Silver Metallic' color and had a full service history. Also, many parts have recently been replaced (timing belt with water pump, fuel pump, steering knuckles, seals and tires). The oil was also new.
Finally, the most important question remains: what is the price? The RS 4 B5 is an exotic on the used car market – yet only 6,030 were produced. The huge differences in prices make an impression on them: the cheapest examples start at around BGN 70,000, but usually these are tuned or very worn machines (and in many cases – both).
The most expensive treasures for collectors with a mileage of less than 100,000 kilometers reach prices of up to BGN 180,000. That's why the offer for this German RS 4 from a second owner seems fair - it is listed for 38,990 euros (approx. 78,000 BGN). Of course, for this money you will not get a museum piece, but rather a decent car that you will be able to enjoy.

This example probably won't interest most collectors due to its high mileage, but for fans who like the RS 4, it looks like a good choice!
