The new Ford Courier: the little king of space has grown up! (TEST)
The Courier is one of Ford's bestsellers: despite its modest length, the little king of space can now perfectly fit into the role of a family car in its Tourneo passenger variant, while the Transit cargo modification now fits two Europallets - and between the fenders (and not under angle as in the predecessor). All this is due to the increased dimensions (+27 mm width, +180 mm length, +76 mm height). Or to put it another way, the model is almost one caliber larger piese auto Ford.
The cockpit is now fully digital, combining two displays – an 8-inch one on the infotainment system and a second one of the same size directly in front of the driver's view in the role of dashboard. Ford is proud of the rich range of standard (on the Tourneo) assistance systems: collision prevention, lane keeping, traffic signs, automatic high beams, intelligent speed assistant and parking sensors. Unfortunately, however, this list does not include the important for the version without rear windows of the Transit blind spot assistant (in this type of vehicle, turning the head to look over the shoulder hardly helps). The valuable extra is included in the package with navigation system, adaptive cruise control camera, etc. worth BGN 3,420 - an amount that would drastically raise the price and which most corporate customers would probably not approve of as an additional expense, especially when ordering entire fleets.
And when it comes to costs: the cute "loader" in its basic modification costs only 40,400 BGN - and companies will be able to "pull" the VAT and get the version with the 1-liter EcoBoost (100 hp, 6- manual transmission) for BGN 33,666. Included in this bargain price are air conditioning, rear parking sensors, automatic high beams, 8-inch touchscreen, two front USB ports (type A/type C) - more than generous equipment for a "baker" who will take on the role of office a car for more unpretentious personnel from the lower levels of companies. Or in other words, most users of even the cheapest modification will be able to count on richer equipment than what they would expect.
If you stick to the more economical 1.5 EcoBlue diesel drive (always with 100 hp, while the EcoBoost also has 125), you will have to part with a minimum of 45,400 BGN. However, here you do not have the opportunity to order the 7-speed automatic (BGN 3,200), which would significantly ease the burden on couriers working all day in busy city traffic. The new generation Courier has a maximum payload of up to 850 kg and a payload volume of up to 2.9 cubic meters – 25% more than its predecessor. Compared to it, the load compartment is 181 mm longer (1802 in total) and 208 wider between the fenders (1220).
The Double Cab in Van cargo-passenger version of the Transit Courier with double sliding doors, opening windows in the second row and rear seats that can act as a bulkhead is also expected in our market soon. The Ford Transit Courier is the only van to receive the highest possible Euro NCAP rating of Platinum in 2023, achieving the highest score in light van safety tests at a phenomenal 93%!
