BMW M4 CS Edition VR46: exclusive edition for Valentino Rossi's birthday
#46 is now 46 years old and BMW M has the perfect birthday present for nine-time motorcycle world champion and current BMW M rider Valentino Rossi (ITA): the BMW M4 CS Edition VR46 (combined fuel consumption: 10.2 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 232 g/km in the WLTP test cycle, CO2 class: G) *. This exclusive edition, produced at the BMW Group plant in Dingolfing, is available in two distinctive design variants: Sport and Style. The “Doctor” himself was personally involved in the design process of both versions, and both will be produced in a limited edition of 46 cars. The world-famous number, which is Rossi’s trademark, is present in several places in the interior and exterior of the BMW M4 CS Edition VR46 – for example on the doors and the roof made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) bieleta directie cap de bara swag pret stanga si dreapta.

Purchasing the BMW M4 CS Edition VR46 is associated with an exclusive experience including a personal meeting with Valentino Rossi at his home – the VR46 motor ranch in Tavullia (ITA) – and a BMW M Driving Experience at the Misano race track (ITA).
“There is no other brand with motorsport as deeply rooted in its DNA as BMW M. I am proud to be a BMW M driver and share this passion. The fact that there is now a special edition VR46, in which I was involved from the very beginning of the design process, makes me proud. When I see the BMW M4 CS Edition VR46 on the road or on the race track later, it will be very exciting,” says Valentino Rossi about the special model and the collaboration with BMW M.
Exclusive BMW Individual paint finishes and special exterior and interior details
One way in which the BMW M4 CS Edition VR46 differs from the BMW M4 CS (combined fuel consumption: 10.2 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 232 g/km in the WLTP cycle, CO2 class: G)* is in the two exclusive BMW Individual paint finishes, which perfectly complement the many exposed carbon surfaces, such as the recesses in the bonnet. Other distinctive features include numerous exclusive exterior and interior details. The overall colour concept of the two design versions is inspired by Valentino Rossi’s preferred tones and his expressive visual style. For example, the “Sport” version is finished in Marina Bay Blue metallic, with a large “46” in darker Tanzanite Blue metallic on both sides of the car. In the “Style” design variant, the bodywork is available in matte Frozen Tanzanite Blue metallic, with the “46” this time in Frozen Marina Bay Blue metallic. In a nod to Rossi’s preferred color scheme, the outline of the BMW M kidney grille and one of the spokes on the V Spoke forged M wheels, which indicates the position of the tire valve, are painted bright yellow, as are the brakes with the M logo and an accent strip above the door frames on the “Sport” variant. The carbon roof – like the car’s hand-painted sides – is embossed with a large VR46 logo (also in yellow, of course) and Rossi’s signature. The boot lid bears the VR46 lettering.
The yellow accents continue in the interior of the BMW M4 CS Edition VR46, which is predominantly in Night blue. The M Carbon bucket seats are available with Merino leather upholstery in the color combination black/night blue. A Sao Paulo yellow accent in the Alcantara shoulder area creates an outstanding contrast. The headrests, like the door sill trim, have a visible yellow VR46 logo. In addition, the M Alcantara three-spoke steering wheel with a beveled rim is available with yellow contrasting stitching and a yellow center marker. The carbon fiber center console of each Edition VR46 car features a “1/46” badge, identifying each Sport or Style model as one of the limited series.
Six-cylinder in-line engine with 405 kW/550 hp
The beating heart of the BMW M4 CS Edition VR46 is the high-revving 3.0-litre six-cylinder in-line engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology. Its exceptional potential is based on motorsport technology. The increase in maximum charge pressure of the two Mono-Scroll turbochargers to 2.1 bar and model-specific engine management settings enable it to develop a maximum output of 405 kW/550 hp, which is transmitted to the road via an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission, the intelligent M xDrive all-wheel drive system and the Active M Differential.
Lightning-fast power delivery and optimised traction enable the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds and from 0 to 200 km/h in 11.1 seconds. Using the “1-Foot – Rollout” acceleration measurement method**, the figures would read 3.1 seconds for the 0 to 100 km/h sprint and 10.8 seconds for 0 to 200 km/h. Acceleration from 80 to 120 km/h takes 2.6 seconds in fourth gear and 3.3 seconds in fifth gear. The top speed of the model, which comes with the M Driver’s Package as standard, is electronically limited to 302 km/h.
The excellent engine response is also ensured by a model-specific engine mounting with increased spring rates. The rigid connection between the power unit and the vehicle structure allows for particularly direct power transmission to the drive train every time the driver presses the accelerator. The oil supply system – like the cooling system – is designed to cope with the specific challenges of track driving, including constantly high revs and extreme lateral acceleration. The engine's power delivery is accompanied by an emotionally stirring sound generated by the dual exhaust system, which features electrically controlled flaps, a weight-optimized titanium rear silencer and the typical M two pairs of tailpipes painted in matt black.
Model-specific tuning for chassis technology and control systems
The chassis technology for the new BMW M4 CS Edition VR46 is precisely tuned to the engine's performance characteristics, the overall vehicle concept and the balanced weight distribution. Individual suspension kinematics as well as specific values for camber, dampers, additional springs and stabilisers optimise steering precision, lateral control force transmission, suspension and damper responses and wheel control. The electronically controlled dampers of the Adaptive M suspension are also available in a model-specific setting, as is the electromechanical M Servotronic variable-ratio steering and the integrated braking system.
46 — trademark of an exceptional competitor
The number 46 accompanied Valentino Rossi throughout his extraordinary career as a motorcyclist and pilot, becoming a trademark, more recognizable than his nickname "The Doctor" or "Il Dottore". Valentino chose 46 from the beginning of his career, following the example of his father Graziano Rossi, who raced motorcycles with this number, not even replacing it with number 1 when he became world champion and received this right.
Valentino Rossi won his first world title in the 125cc class in 1997. Two years later he added the 250cc title. In 2000 he made the step up to the highest Grand Prix category, the 500cc class, in which he was world champion in 2001. The following year this category was replaced by the MotoGP class, and Rossi remained the dominant force. By 2005 he had added four more world titles, with numbers eight and nine following in 2008 and 2009. With these nine world titles and no less than 115 Grand Prix victories, he is one of the three most successful motorcyclists in history and a global icon in the world of motorsport. VR46 has become his global trademark, and Rossi's hometown of Tavullia even lowered the city's speed limit from the usual 50 km/h to 46 km/h in his honour.
BMW M works driver from the beginning of 2023.
After his motorcycle career ended at the end of the 2021 season, Valentino Rossi turned his attention solely to motor racing, taking part in numerous tests in Formula 1 racing cars and making guest appearances in rallies and endurance races. Since the start of the 2023 season, he has been a BMW M works driver, giving the best of his skills at the wheel of the BMW M4 GT3 for BMW M Team WRT in various series, including the GT World Challenge Europe and the FIA World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC) - which includes the 24 Hours of Le Mans (FRA). In early February 2025, he finished second in the BMW M4 GT3 at the 12 Hours of Bathurst (AUS), the opening round of the Intercontinental GT Challenge (IGTC) this season.
Exclusive meeting with Valentino Rossi in Italy
An exclusive bonus, with the purchase of the BMW M4 CS Edition VR46, is the opportunity for a very special two-day experience in Italy. The first day includes a visit to the VR46 motor ranch in Tavullia, including a barbecue and the opportunity to talk to Valentino Rossi himself. The second day is at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, where a special BMW M Driving Experience with the latest BMW M models is held. Rossi, behind the wheel of the BMW M4 GT3, wins the GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup races at his home track in 2023 and 2024.
