Mercedes G 63 AMG V12: the legendary "cube", produced in only 5 units

The Mercedes-AMG G 63 is a dream car for many professional footballers and has been a status symbol for years. Despite its base price of nearly 380,000 leva, G 63 can be found on almost every corner! If you're after a truly rare AMG, you should take a close look at this 2001 G 63 AMG set offered by auction house RM Sothebys. Behind its inconspicuous appearance lies something special...

The specimen in question is a real exotic. Long before Mercedes added the G 63 AMG to its range with the V8 biturbo engine badged as the M 157, Stuttgart had launched a small series that also bore the G 63 badge… but with the difference that customers got what the badge promised!

Atmospheric V12 engine instead of V8 biturbo

Under the hood of the G 63 AMG presented by us is not a 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8, but a 6.3-liter naturally aspirated V12 engine (M 137). However, the exclusive G 63 AMG V12 cannot be ordered just like that – AMG offers it personally only to selected customers, i.e. never officially advertises it.

According to unofficial data, the V12 unit with a working volume of 6258 cubic centimeters generates 444 hp. and accelerates the off-road machine from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds. The maximum speed is 210 km/h. The G 63 with the V12 was only produced between 2001 and 2003, i.e. some ten years before the G 65 AMG with V12 biturbo launched at a later stage.

Only five units produced

According to the RM Sothebys auction description, only five examples of the G 63 AMG V12 left the Affalterbach factory, making the 'cube' one of the rarest AMG models of all time. The G-Class up for auction is in Alabaster White and was delivered to a member of the Dubai Royal Family on October 10, 2001. from Mercedes-Benz dealer Gargash.

How much does the G 63 AMG cost?

The rare AMG model remains in the royal family's possession until 2023; on 1 December 2024 the car is to be auctioned at RM Sotheby's in Dubai with a mileage of around 44,000 km. The estimated price is the equivalent of about 660 to 750 thousand. leva (350 to 400 thousand US dollars). But it is still one of the rarest AMGs in history where the 63 designation fulfills a real promise.

Conclusion

Of course, the new Mercedes-AMG G 63 is significantly better than the more than 20-year-old G 63 AMG, but the G-Class V12 in question is one of the rarest AMGs in history, which makes it extremely attractive to collectors.
