It's exotic, rare and very attractive: the 1972 De Tomaso Pantera L combines Italian design with brutal power generated by a Ford engine. If you're into classic Muscle Cars with a supercar look, you can find a great offer for you on the used car exchange at. There, a yellow example of the 280 hp V8 coupe is for sale.
In the early 1970s, Argentine racer and designer Alejandro De Tomaso wanted to combine the best of two worlds: the design and driving feel of an Italian sports car with the power of an American V8. The result was the Pantera, which also means feline predator in Italian.
The Lusso (L) was an advanced version of the standard Pantera with some technical improvements. Under the hood, the legendary 5.7-liter 351C Cleveland Cobra Jet V8 worked, generating 280 hp with decent torque for an aggressive sound and powerful acceleration. The combination of a mid-mounted engine, rear-wheel drive and a 5-speed manual transmission made the Pantera’s road behavior captivating – a mix of the raw charm of an “American muscle” and the precision of a European sports car.
History and condition: a collector's magnet with character
The De Tomaso, which is offered by a dealership in the German city of Neuss, was imported from the United States to Germany in 2015 and until then belonged to a man from Texas. Since its arrival on the Old Continent, a large number of repairs and modifications have been made: new ignition cables, a revised brake system, new engine gaskets and a new steering box. In addition, the front and rear lights have been redesigned to European standards to make the Pantera drive smoothly on German roads. Since 2016, the car has had a special registration as a vintage car. With only 61,158 kilometers on the odometer, this De Tomaso is in impeccable condition.
Pantera: the outsider among the super sports cars of the 70s
While Ferrari and Lamborghini were packing their models with sophisticated technology and V12 engines in the 1970s, De Tomaso focused on simple, potent and wild machines. This made the Pantera not only powerful, but also easier to maintain than many of its Italian competitors.
Conclusion
The De Tomaso Pantera was never a mass-produced model, but an exotic jewel for connoisseurs. And whoever finds a well-preserved Pantera L will have a real rarity. For 98,890 euros (approx. 200,000 leva) you get 70s power that impresses both on the road and in the garage. If you are looking for V8 dynamics in an Italian package, you should get to know this classic better.
